Be an OEYC Volunteer!
The Ontario Early Years Centre of Leeds and Grenville is eager to recruit people who would like to work with young children and their families.
The Ontario Early Years Centre is looking for your help. We are looking for volunteers in Brockville, Kemptville, Prescott, Gananoque, along with various rural areas.
Do you like to read to children or are you a storyteller? Maybe you enjoy singing, dancing, playing or simply spending time with young children? Do you have a creative craft to share? Maybe you have a special talent or area of expertise that would interest families/caregivers with young children? Do you enjoy meeting new people?
In addition to the many benefits that volunteers bring to organizations, research has found that donating your time also benefits you in a number of ways.
Health Benefits - A study funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health in 1991 found that volunteering can improve self-esteem, reduce blood pressure, combat social isolation, reduce the impact of stress and augment the body's immune system.
Learning Benefits - The National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating found that 76% of respondents reported an improvement in interpersonal skills. An additional 66% said that they had improved their communication skills, and 64% said they had increased their knowledge about issues relating to health, women, the environment and politics.
Job Benefits - More than one million Canadians obtained employment through their volunteer experience.
Other reasons that a person might decide to donate their time might include one or more of the following:
- To utilize certain expertise and skills to benefit the community
- To fill in free time
- To increase self confidence
- To support something in which they believe
- To contribute to a humanitarian cause that is important to them - early child development
- To contribute to social development
- To feel a sense of belonging and social cohesion
- To gain knowledge, experience and training in the field of chid care and family support
- To improve the quality of life of members of the community
- To enhance strengths
- To develop and grow personally
- To develop or enhance relationships
- To feel rewarded by helping others.
